Commercial Independence

The value of an evidence assessment depends entirely on the assessor's freedom to reach a negative conclusion. The following commitments apply to every organizational engagement I accept:

I sell judgment, not endorsement. My name does not appear on products, packaging, or marketing materials. I do not serve as a spokesperson, brand ambassador, or testimonial, and I do not permit my credentials to be used to imply approval of a product.

No contingent compensation. No affiliate arrangements, commissions, revenue sharing, or equity in companies whose products I evaluate. Fees are for time and analysis, never tied to a conclusion reached or to a product's commercial performance.

No predetermined conclusions. I do not accept engagements conditioned on supporting a specific claim. If the evidence does not support a claim, the deliverable says so, and I retain the right to decline to sign off on any assessment I do not stand behind.

Advisory roles stay advisory only. I do not accept scientific advisory board positions that function primarily as a marketing credential rather than as a working relationship.

One evidence standard. Botanical, traditional, and food-based interventions are held to the same standard of evidence as pharmaceutical ones — neither exempted from scrutiny nor dismissed without it. This applies whether the resulting conclusion favors a client or not.

Separation of practice and consulting. Organizational clients have no influence over the recommendations I make to counseling clients. I do not sell or recommend products from companies I advise, and my practice is never a distribution channel for a commercial relationship.

Disclosure. Any commercial relationship that could reasonably bear my public or professional statements is disclosed on request.
